i am so excited buying my first XDA and finally get into the groove! Smile

the last XDA i used was XDA 2 way back 2005, and was issued by my previous company which i already surrendered.

what would you recommend if im going to buy my own XDA?
features that i prefer are
1. no keyboard
2. smaller/lighter better
3. big and upgradable storage
4. speed is necessary, fastest
5. any other features can be compromised to satisfy the above 4 Very Happy

im looking at XDA Flame, XDA Atom Exec or XDA Atom Life
i have few questions bout them:
1. which is faster? Intel XScale® PXA 270 Processor at 624 MHz or 520 MHz?
2. what does 2GB + 64MB Flash ROM mean? and wouldnt this be problem if its smaller at 192MB but with a large miniSD?
3. why would i want a bigger TFT?
4. are there XDAs with quadband?

im currently in U.A.E. and im going back to Phil. on Feb., i wanna know where is the best plac to buy my XDA, i dont know the current prices both here in UAE or in the Phil., you guys happen to know websites with prices of XDA on sale? i would rather buy it in the Phil.

super thanks!

sorry, noob here Very Happy

it seems o2 flame is the device for you. obviously, 624 is faster than 520 but I think there's no big difference. the big advantages of the o2 flame are - the 2gb rom which means you can install many applications and keep a lot of files (can also add at most another 2gb micro sd card), big screen with high resolution and usb host function(which means it can read your usb memory sticks). for more info on the flame, go to the o2 section here in pinoywindowsmobile . the big boss did a great review of this wonderful device. enough of the hype.pls. start reading.hehe.

The Xda Flame and the Xda Atom Life are the new units from O2.

The Xda Atom Life is definitely small... much smaller than your old Xda II and with much more power. It has a built-in radio among other things and is 3.5 G capable as well with 2 cameras. 1 for capturing images and video and the other one for communications.

The Xda Flame will remind you of your Xda II and in itself is a real powerhouse. VGA screen, Video out, Consumer IR, and the works...

Mobile devices use IR for basic device to device communication such as file transfer and synchronization. It normally has limited range and is best at about 6 -12 inches distance between devices.

Consumer IR is much stronger allowing users to use their devices as remote control units. The effective range of these devices can go up to as much as 20 feet or so.

Well not really... Wi-Fi uses radio waves...and does not require a line of sight. IR is basically invisible (to the human eye) light which requires you to point it at the receiver. Consumer IR is different from IrDA... IrDA is used for synchronization while Consumer IR is used for controlling appliances.

‘Consumer’ IR is the use of infrared to control consumer electronics products, for instance, TVs, hi-fis, DVD players etc. This usage has no link with IrDA; the protocols used by the remote controls are quite unlike the protocol used by the IrDA (IrDA-Data) protocol suite.

Quote:
Most software that is available for consumer infrared control from PCs appears to need custom hardware and does not use IrDA devices, they use a simple infrared diode connected directly to a serial port. See my FAQ for some notes on this. It may be that the IrDA devices cannot send (and receive) non IrDA signal, it will also likely be that the IrDA device does not give a long enough range and only works when near the consumer device.

However, some IrDA devices can be configured to send consumer infrared types of signal instead of the IrDA type signal. See the documentation for your device.

What about a Car remote? Is the technology used Infrared? Is there an application that can function as a Car remote?

Im not sure if there is a keyless entry system or car alarm that runs on infrared. They usually employ a unique radio chip.

It would be cool though if you could open and start your car with your WM device.
