What the difference between the three? How do you differentiate them? and Any way to classify what particular phone model falls under which category?

Simple:

SMARTPHONE: All phones that has taskmanager and can be installed with native apps: pocketpc and DPA are also a smartphones as long as they include phone functionality.

PDA: It can be a smartphone if it has phone functionality.

POCKETPC PHONE: PDA + phone functionality and it must be Microsoft

Well the term Smartphone and smartphone refer to different devices.

Smartphones with a big S is what Windows Mobile powered devices with numeric keypads (which were basically phones with limited computing power) were called.

A smartphone can be any phone with PDA or computing capabilities.

PDAs are mobile devices that could keep your calendar, notes, and contacts.

Pocket PCs are PDAs with PC-like computing power

Pocket PC Phones are PDAs with phone capabilities

These definitions are a bit obsolete as the devices have overlapped in both hardware and software aspects.

Exactly... and Smartphones with a big S shouldn't be called Smartphones if they don't have the Microsoft logo on it as well. If they don't come with a Microsoft logo... call it a smartphone with a small s.

And that doesn't even cover the Windows CE devices that came in prior to it being called Pocket PCs...

It will get more confusing when you add Palm-sized PCs and Handheld PCs into the mix.
