SAMSUNG SGH-i600

I just bought my Samsun SGH-i600 Smartphone last Saturday at MemoXpress (SM City-Sta. Rosa). I bought it here since this is the nearest mall in my place.

I got it for 24,900. The device looks good.
What are inside the box:
1. 2 battery
2. External battery charger
3. Hands-free kit/stero headphones.
4. USB Cable (with proprietary connection)
5. Traveller charger
6. 2 CDs (manual & software)
7. Extra back cover (battery)
8. and Unit!
NO leather case! (most WM Smartphone doesn'r inlude one)

The Good:
1. HSDPA (1.8 mbps)
2. Small size:11.8mm; weight: 105g and thin (the tinnest 3.5G).
3. Wi-Fi
4. Bluetooth 2.0 EDR
5. RSS Reader & Podcasting application.
6. QWERTY keypad, I like their number implementation.
6. VERY GOOD Sound & Screen (I think SAMSUNG is one if not the phone with good sound and quality of LCD).
7. Matte (scratch proof) finish on the back side of the phone (not in the front). It is not that attractive to dust/lint.

The Bad:
1. Not sure if there will be a WM6 upgrade
2. Navigation keys are a little bit hard for people with big thumbs. I accidentaly hitting the two SW keys around the navigation keys.
3. Back cover is quite hard to remove.
4. Limited accessories.

Overall I like the device. Push email works!
I looking for a leather case for this smartphone but can't find one.
There is one at brando but it is for the SGH-i607 (with front camera).

removing the batt cover is not an easy task at first but once you get used to it, replacing is smooth as butter Smile

tip:
use your 2 thumbs. with the front of the fone facing the floor and the camera near your body, hold down the edge (left thumb in .com, right in samsung), press downward the forward (batt cover going away from your body).

Btw I'm trying to transfer some contacts from an old Nokia phone (no BT) via IR. Thay said the device supports IR but I can't find which side the IR is located.

Do you know of a leather case for this unit.

i've seen leather cases in ebay but no sure if the front camera is covered.i'm just using a generic pouch at the moment.

I placed an order with brando online. It's for the i607.
Price: $31 (including shipping & my wife's approval).
I wont be using video call most of the time.

there's another retailer that sells i607 cases (which I forgot, the site is in my laptop at home) for $19 excl. shipping charges.

btw, did you get a free 512mb micro sd ?

Just wanted to ask if you have already experienced having dust under the LCD screen coz mine had and I had to go to the service center for clean up.

Sarge, Im not using any screen protector considering its a new unit. Also the dust are more prominent along the upper to middle left side of the screen. I googled the issue and found that many are experiencing the same dust problem. Some say that the dust are coming in through the volume button, or the synching port, while others say its from the opening at the receiver. Who knows...

Anyway, I'm still waiting for my unit. Hopefully, Samsung has already solved the problem when the new one arrives.

you might want to consider putting a screen protector even if its a new one. for higher resale value and to protect your screen from permanent light scratches.

So far, I haven't seen a pre-cut screen protector for the SGH-i600 here in the Philippines but you can do the cutting by your self.

I've seen a pre-cut screen protector on Brando's website.

mine came with a free screen protector and 512mb micro sd but I bought it here in singapore Very Happy

it proved again that everything about gadgets are better in singapore... Sad

I have a friend here that works with a company here which has a Singapore HQ (barcode related), once told me that gadgets are cheaper and support are better. Asked me that he can get gadgets from Singapore for me, he went to Singapore regularly.
